When I was in my first two years of high school, I really didn’t have anyone to share my culture with. I was already shy to begin with, and I was one of three Latino students in my class at CSA New Tech . When I reached my senior year of high school, I realized that I was probably not the only one who felt like this. That I didn’t have the space to express my culture. Soon, all the Latino students were called out of class and were told to go to MPR in our school
That’s where I met the Latino Coachs for schools. Mariana and Nadia. They introduce themselves and explain their work, and what they do, as well as the idea of starting a Latino club in our school. I went to Mariana and introduced myself, and expressed my desire to start a club here at my school. That’s when I started my adventure with TuFuturo.
I worked with TuFuturo all my senior year and could not be more grateful to them. Mariana, the Latino coach of East and CSA worked with me not only with L.O.V.E. Club which turned out to be a great success. She also became my mentor, for my senior project and life in general. TuFuturo was there for me not only when I was having difficulty in school, but also helping me in my personal life. Yes, TuFuturo helps high school students enter higher education, but it goes beyond that. The Latino Coachs are there to help you with whatever you need, good or bad. I could go to Mariana for help on my essay or to tell her gossip. No matter what I came to her with , I knew she would be there to listen.
